about

Dr Robert’s “Lost In Rasa” is a first mesmerising release from the unique and groundbreaking Monks Road Social. Coming on like a long lost cousin of Marvin Gaye’s ‘Trouble Man’ mixed with Fred Neil’s narcotic folk, it soars with the heart wrenching strings of Ben Trigg, leaving you breathless, elated and ever so slightly joyous.

“It’s about getting lost “ offers Robert. "The moment where ‘self’ disappears and we are reunited with the ‘universal’ - music can do that."

Helping Robert get there were some members of the stellar Monks Road Social: Mick Talbot (Style Council, The Who) on harmonium, piano and Hammond; Crispin Taylor (Galliano, Candi Staton, Push) on drums; Ernie McKone (Galliano, Marlene Shaw) on bass; Matt Deighton (Mother Earth, Oasis) on lead guitar; Steve Sidelnyk (Richard Ashcroft, Madonna) percussion and, of course, the exquisite strings of Ben Trigg (Dexys, Richard Ashcroft).

‘Lost in Rasa’ is backed with a double A side: “So Long Soho” by the marvellous and mysterious Pat Dam Smyth. A eulogy to a disappearing world where bohemia is replaced by bankers and the forces of commerce slowly erode the cultural heart of the city and its people, “So Long Soho” stands tall and proud among the great London songwriters like Ray Davies, Damon Albarn and Madness.

At its heart lies a deep humanity and compassion and a songwriter with a gift for storytelling drama and melody. Pat is one to watch!

Both tracks are taken from forthcoming Long Player “Down The Willows” by the ever evolving collaborative outfit known as The Monks Road Social and the first album release is a unique and special project of inspiration, friendship and craft. There really hasn't been an album like it.
